Opal Australian Paper

Opal Australian Paper has a proud history in local paper manufacturing. The Maryvale Mill opened in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley in 1937 and has since grown to be one of the largest employers in the region, manufacturing close to 600,000 tonnes of paper and board annually. Opal Australian Paper is a vertically integrated manufacturer of pulp and paper, and Australia’s only manufacturer of copy, printing and inkjet papers, and bag, sack, and industrial papers.

Our story

The Maryvale Mill opened in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley in 1937 and has since grown to be one of the largest employers in the region, manufacturing close to 600,000 tonnes of paper and board annually. The site includes five paper machines, three pulp mills and two wastepaper recycling plants. The Maryvale Mill is also a major supplier of kraft liner board for cardboard containers.

Preston

Opal Australian Paper’s Preston operation is a leading manufacturer of envelopes and stationery including Olympic exercise and scholastic books, business books and manila folders. Preston also leverages a global procurement network to ensure a full range offering for its customers.

PPM

Paper Products Marketing (PPM) manages Opal Australian Paper’s export business with overseas sales offices in Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. Through PPM, Opal Australian Paper is one of the largest users of the Port of Melbourne, exporting a range of premium papers to more than 70 countries in Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East.
