Botany Mill

Welcome to Opal Paper & Recycling

Opal Paper & Recycling produces more than 400,000 tonnes of high quality, 100% recycled paper every year. This paper is then converted into corrugated board through the Opal network and by customers in North America and South East Asia.

An advanced manufacturer

This modern manufacturing facility is located in Botany, New South Wales, where paper has been produced since 1902. The most recent production line was commissioned in 2012, replacing the previous generation of machines and is now recognised as an industry benchmark for containerboard manufacturing.

Modern recycling services

The Botany Mill offers a range of recycling services including collections, equipment supply & servicing, staff education and training, account management and reporting to cater for a wide range of businesses, from small to medium enterprises through to large supermarkets chains.

One of Australia's largest cardboard recycling plants

Opal Paper and Recycling is one of Australia’s largest cardboard recycling operations collecting approximately 500,000 tonnes of mostly Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) annually which is used to produce 100% recycled paper.

Committed to sustainability

As one of Australia’s leading packaging and recycling companies, Opal is committed to improving environmental and sustainability outcomes.

See behind the scenes at Botany Mill

Giving paper crumble a second life

Composting is another form of recycling, using paper crumble to create nutrient-rich compost that supports soils and thriving farmland. See how we’re working with SoilRegen to give paper crumble a second life, helping to improve soil and supporting healthy paddocks.

Supporting the local environment

Opal Paper & Recycling staff at Botany Mill participate in Business Clean Up Australia Day. Every year, a dedicated team help clean up Purcell Park, which is a community park owned by Botany Mill and run by the local council. Sustainability is central to how we at Opal operates.
