Delivering fresh Greek flavours in clever cardboard packaging
Queensland – beautiful one day and almost always perfect the next. Which makes it the ideal location to enjoy long outdoor lunches and breaking bread at family feasts.
Spero, a beach style eatery that’s part of the Tony Kelly Restaurant Group, specialises in taking quality local produce to create a distinctive menu, featuring flavours of the Mediterranean.
Offering customers takeaway options for their delicious, fresh Greek inspired cuisine, Spero needed a packaging partner who understood the practical requirements of takeaway packaging, with demonstrated design capability.
Working with Spero, Opal developed a two piece cardboard tray and insert solution that showcased the innovative capability our Specialty Packaging team brings to the Queensland market, through double print, flexo technology.
Anita Lenicek, Regional General Manager Opal Specialty Packaging QLD, said Spero was seeking smart, presentable food packaging that their chefs could use to directly dish up food orders. The cardboard insert made it easy for customers to take away their order and enjoy a tasty, flavoursome feast straight from the tray.
‘Our double print capability provided high-quality design and branding on both the outside and inside of the packaging, which was an essential style element for Spero,’ Anita said.
‘As the packaging is cardboard, it’s also mainly kerbside recyclable.’
Tony Kelly said the packaging was engineered rather than assumed.
‘It’s not about presentation for its own sake; it’s about protecting two days of work on a twenty-minute drive home. It demonstrates the effort we’ve put into making sure this product is unbeatable. This lamb is one of those things that’s just as good at home as when you get it in the restaurant,’ said Tony.
