Rethinking packaging on the first World Packaging Day

On 6 September 2026, Opal marked the World Packaging Organisation’s (WPO) inaugural World Packaging Day.

Packaging plays an important role in everyday life, from protecting essential goods and enabling global supply chains to supporting materials innovation and more circular systems.

For Opal, the day was an opportunity to highlight what’s possible when we rethink packaging.

Through our work with customers and partners like Mountain Blue, we’ve helped explore how premium berries can move from plastic packaging to paper-based punnets, designed with performance and circularity in mind.

It’s one example of how rethinking packaging can find better ways to protect and deliver the products we rely on every day.
