Get to know our Opal People: Ginny Parisot

It’s National Recycling Week (7 – 13 November 2022) and this year’s theme is Waste isn’t Waste until it’s Wasted, with a focus on the best way to avoid waste which is to refuse, reduce, reuse, repair and then recycle.

Opal’s Vision is, Opal shapes the future through sustainable packaging, and we are committed to continuing to reduce waste through reuse and recycling.

We caught up with Ginny Parisot, Recycling Consultant – Opal Paper & Recycling, who has been with Opal for five years.

In her role, Ginny’s main goal is working to supply recycled cardboard to the B9 paper machine. “We offer closed-loop solutions for the cardboard and identify, plan, develop, execute and manage waste reduction solutions for our customers and suppliers, by finding alternatives to landfill,” Ginny says.

“What motivates me and my work is knowing the service Opal provides to divert waste from landfill and help reduce the production of waste.”

Ginny believes that awareness initiatives like National Recycling Week are important as they help reassess our knowledge in a constantly changing environment. “It is a chance to adapt our daily behaviour and also at the same time to reorganise our waste – for example, divert organic waste by adding a composter,” she says.

Originally from France, Ginny is proud of becoming an Australian citizen after arriving as a backpacker in Australia seven years ago and falling in love with the country. “Opal made it possible by sponsoring me five years ago. I went through different visas and skill assessments to be able to stay working and living here,” she says.

Ginny is a big advocate for climate change action and recently started volunteering for Climate Fresk, an organisation working on educating the general population about climate change. “I believe education is key to take action towards a sustainable future,” she says.

Starward Whisky bespoke packaging solution

Starward Whisky partnered with Opal for a bespoke packaging solution to fit their new direct-to-the-public online storefront. New to the e-commerce market, Starward needed a fitting shipper to represent its brand and ensure the safe delivery of each bottle from distillery to door-step.

Sapporo “Refined by Rebellion” campaign

Understanding the importance Sapporo placed on brand and identity, Opal’s print capabilities aligned to support Sapporo’s rich history. The design incorporated culturally significant and eye-catching Japanese iconography in the form of Manga artwork on the carton itself—the first time Manga has been used on a beer carton.
