Embracing Equity this International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide and this year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. At Opal, we can continue to #EmbraceEquity by creating an inclusive culture and workplace that supports diversity and equity.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 and was first observed back in 1911 and since then has become a global movement that brings attention to women’s rights and equality.

This year we caught up with Opal team members to hear what International Women’s Day means to them.

“It’s a day to celebrate women’s achievements. It’s also a time to share our stories and support one another. I think the day also allows us to stop, reflect, and think about our own behaviours and how they impact the people around us in the workplace.” – Jenni Booth, Head of Opal Specialty Packaging Australia.

“I’m very pleased to be working in a company that’s progressive in areas of equality and diversity. I know it’s a day of celebration, which is important, but I appreciate what the movement does.

“I’ve seen the progress – not just within this business but across society and other businesses, and I think it’s fantastic to see more women filling senior roles and getting greater opportunities. I know there’s still a long way to go, but it’s good to see it heading in the right direction.” – Paul Meldrum, Victorian State Sales Manager Industrial – Opal Fibre Packaging Australia.

“It’s definitely a day to recognise and celebrate all the achievements of women and men. We have certainly come a long way from back in the days when women had no rights to vote, be in parliament, or even seek proper medical attention.

“I believe we still have a bit more work to do. So we should all work together, support each other, and try and break all the stereotypes and biases we face daily.” – Ana Mojsovska, Territory Manager, Opal Fibre Packaging Australia.

“International Women’s Day is about celebrating diversity and inclusion. And what does that mean? That means ensuring that all women around the world have equal rights and right to an education.” – Elkin Jackson, General Manager Sales, Opal Fibre Packaging Australia.
