Business Clean Up Australia Day at Botany Mill

For the sixth consecutive year, Opal Paper & Recycling Botany Mill team members participated in the Business Clean Up Australia Day.

After a two week delay due to poor weather, a dedicated team put on their gloves and helped clean up Purcell Park. The community park in Matraville, NSW, is owned by Opal’s Botany Mill and used by local residents.

One of the residents walking in the park was shocked at the amount of rubbish the team removed as a lot was hidden behind the scrub.

The items cleaned up and removed included:

  • Mattresses
  • Tables
  • Shopping trolleys
  • Chairs
  • A bar stool
  • A baby car seat
  • A tarp
  • A shovel
  • Eight bags of litter.

Well done to the Botany Mill team for helping clean up Australia and improve the local environment once again!

Clean up Australia Day is now the nation’s largest community-based environmental event and has been running for more than 30 years. More than 19 million Australians have donated their time as part of Clean Up Australia Day activities, with more than 38.5 million hours volunteered to help benefit the environment.
