BioPathways Partnership

Funded under the State Government Workforce Training Innovation Fund, BioPathways is a strategic partnership between Opal Australian Paper, Federation Training and Federation University to support Gippsland’s future biomanufacturing training needs.

Aims and objectives

The project aims to develop accredited biomanufacturing training to support a Gippsland bioeconomy and future opportunities for Opal Australian Paper. Our Maryvale site produces more than 600,000 tonnes of lignin-based biofuel annually and in the future this could be processed into a range of new generation bioproducts such as:

  • Substitutes for plastics
  • Complex chemicals and biofuels
  • Carbon fibre
